Privacy Policy

How Depth Chart handles information — with particular care for children's data.

Depth Chart is a youth-sports player-evaluation tool that coaches and families use to rate players, plan formations, and tag skills during games. This policy explains what information the service involves, how it is handled, and the rights that parents, guardians, players, coaches, and other users have. Because Depth Chart is used to evaluate children, we have designed it to keep data on your own device wherever possible and to collect as little as we can.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to everyone who uses Depth Chart at depthchart.club — including parents and guardians, players, and coaches — and to any information we receive in connection with the service. Coaches access a protected area of the site; the player/family tools are open to use.

2. Information the service involves

Information you enter (stored on your device)

When you use Depth Chart, the information you enter is saved locally in your browser's storage on the device you are using. It is not transmitted to us automatically. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:

• Player details such as name (or initials), age, handedness, and sport;
• Skill ratings, positions, formations, and evaluation notes;
• For a family using the player tool: a parent/guardian name and contact details you choose to enter;
• For a coach: your name, team or club name, and an optional team logo;
• Activity and history entries, and tag "moments" (a skill label and a timestamp) you create during tagging.

Information created only when you share a file

Depth Chart lets you export your data as a file (for example, to share a player's profile with a coach, or to back up your roster) and import files others send you. Information leaves your device only when you take one of these actions. If you send a file to someone, they receive whatever it contains.

Information handled automatically by our hosting providers

Depth Chart is a static website served through standard hosting and content-delivery infrastructure (currently GitHub Pages and Cloudflare). Like most websites, these providers automatically process limited technical data needed to deliver and secure the site — such as your IP address, browser type, and request logs. For the protected coach area, our access provider processes the email/identity used to sign in so it can grant access. We use these providers as service providers; we do not use this technical data to build advertising profiles.

What we do not collect

We do not use third-party advertising, and we do not embed third-party analytics or tracking in the evaluation tools. We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, financial account details, precise geolocation, or health information. We do not save video recordings (see Section 4).

3. Children's privacy (COPPA)

Depth Chart is used to evaluate children, including children under the age of 13, and we take the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) seriously. This section serves as our notice to parents and guardians.

• A parent or guardian is in control. The player tool is intended to be set up and managed by a parent/guardian (or, for team rosters, by a coach who has obtained parental consent). Information about a child is entered by that adult and stored on that adult's device.
• Consent before a child's data reaches us. In ordinary use, a child's information stays on the device and never reaches us. During testing programs, or any feature where information would be sent to us, we obtain verifiable parental consent before receiving a child's personal information, and we describe what will be collected and why.
• We collect only what's needed to provide the evaluation features, and we do not condition a child's participation on providing more information than is reasonably necessary.
• Parental rights. A parent or guardian may (a) review the personal information we have received about their child, (b) ask us to delete it, and (c) refuse to allow further collection or use. To exercise these rights, contact us using Section 13. Because most data is stored only on your own device, you can also review or delete it directly in the app.
• No sale, no targeted advertising, no unrelated reuse. We do not sell children's information, use it for targeted advertising, or use it to train advertising or AI models. We would ask for separate, specific consent before using a child's information for any purpose not described here.
• Retention. We keep any children's information we receive only as long as needed for the purpose it was provided, and then delete it (see Section 7).

4. Video and recording

Depth Chart can use your device camera, or a video clip you load, to help tag skills during a game or practice. Handling of video is deliberately limited:

• Video is processed only in your browser, during your session. The app does not save recordings to disk and does not upload them to us. When you close the session, the video is discarded.
• Only the tags you create — a skill label and a timestamp — are stored with your local data. If the video is gone, a tag simply shows its timestamp.
• Record only in ordinary public game or practice settings, and never in locker rooms, restrooms, changing areas, or other private spaces. Obtain the consent of the parents/guardians of any child you record. If you load a clip from your own device, you are responsible for that footage.

5. How information is used

Information in Depth Chart is used to provide the service you asked for: to store and display your evaluations, build formations and depth charts, tag and confirm skills, generate profiles and history you choose to create, and — where applicable — to operate a testing program and communicate with you about it. We use the limited technical data from our hosting providers to deliver, secure, and maintain the site. We do not use your information for advertising.

6. When information is disclosed

We do not sell or rent personal information. Information is disclosed only in these limited ways:

• When you share it. If you export and send a file, the recipient you choose receives it. That sharing is under your control.
• Service providers. Our hosting, content-delivery, and access providers (e.g., GitHub Pages, Cloudflare) process limited technical data to run the site on our behalf. They are not permitted to use it for their own marketing.
• Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the public.
• Business transfer. If the service is ever transferred to another owner, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

7. Data retention and deletion

Information you enter stays on your device until you delete it in the app or clear your browser storage — you are in control of it. For any information we actually receive (for example, a file you send us or data from a testing program), we keep it only as long as needed for the purpose it was provided and then delete it; we do not retain personal information indefinitely. You may ask us to delete information we hold at any time (Section 13).

8. Security

The service is delivered over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and the coach area is access-controlled. Because your evaluation data is stored on your own device, keeping that device secure — a screen lock, not using shared or public computers, and not forwarding exported files to people who shouldn't have them — is an important part of protecting it. For any information we receive, we limit access and apply reasonable safeguards. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect information appropriately for its sensitivity.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know what personal information is collected, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of it. We honor these rights for all users as a matter of practice. Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of on that front. To make a request, contact us using Section 13; we will verify your request (and, for a child, a parent/guardian's authority) before acting on it, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.

10. California disclosures

Categories. The categories of personal information the service can involve are identifiers (such as name and email), a protected characteristic (age), and audio/visual information (in-session video that is not retained). We use these to provide the service as described above and do not sell or share them.

Minors. We do not sell or share the personal information of any user, and specifically not that of consumers we know to be under 16. California residents under 18 who are registered users may request removal of content they posted; because your content is stored on your device, you can remove it directly in the app, or contact us for help.

"Do Not Track." The evaluation tools do not track users across third-party websites, so we do not respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals; we simply do not perform that kind of tracking.

11. Where the service is offered

Depth Chart is intended for users in the United States. It is not directed to, and should not be used by, individuals located in the European Union or the United Kingdom. If we later offer the service in those regions, we will update this policy and our practices accordingly.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the version and effective date above and post the updated policy here. For material changes affecting children's information, we will seek parental consent again where required.
